About Us

How We Got Started

As you can see we have changed our name. The South Baton Rouge Christian Children's Foundation is now Key Foundations. One of the things we realized was that the name brands the organization. We wanted the name to represent what we do and include both the Family Resource Center and the Child Development Center. Key Foundations was the name we chose because it represents the idea of providing keys to understanding how to lay a foundation for educating our children, enriching our families and empowering our communities. Key Foundations offers all those but most importantly the biblical principles to living a successful life.

Key Foundations(KF) is a grassroots organization and an extended ministry of the South Baton Rouge Church of Christ. The South Baton Rouge Church of Christ is a nonprofit organization established in the Baton Rouge Community for 29 years. See www.sbrcc.org for more information on the church.

KF's mission is to break destructive cycles by educating children, enriching families, and empowering communities using Christian principles through partnerships with community organizations. Without self motivation or positive intervention it is hard to break destructive cycles. Intervention can come from a personal decision or from outside help. In many cases, information and training can encourage and guide us in our efforts to make the necessary steps to transition and break destructive cycles.

The South Baton Rouge Church of Christ has provided school supplies to the Children at Buchanan Elementary since 2000, and this relationship with Buchanan Elementary led to the organization of SBRCCF. In 2003, the church turned over the school supply program to SBRCCF. This year, SBRCCF purchased school supplies, which were secured by funding from the administrative arm of the church, individual donations from members of the congregation and a collaborative partnership with WalMart, for over 125 students at Buchanan and Polk Elementary.

In October of 2003, a survey of families of children attending Buchanan and Polk revealed an interest in child care, preschool programs, and extended training needed in families. In an effort to address these community needs, SBRCCF will develop a Child Care-Preschool Center and a Family Resource Center .

SBRCCF was chosen as one of 40 organizations to participate in the Louisiana Rural Capacity Academy , sponsored by the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO), in 2004. The Louisiana Rural Capacity Academy positions SBRCCF to increase its effectiveness, enhancing the ability to provide services, expanding the organization, diversifying funding sources and opportunities for collaborations with other faith-based and community organizations. As a result of the many benefits offered through the Rural Capacity Academy (RCA), SBRCCF received its first award of $6,000. Recently SBRCCF was awarded a $50,000 award from the President’s Compassion Capital Fund from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. These awards are providing vital technical support to help establish and strengthen SBRCCF’s ability to deliver services. Along with the increased ability to deliver services, SBRCCF will build strong collaborative relationships with other faith-based and community organizations to better serve those in need.
